March 18, 2011

A fight between two men during St. Patrick's Day festivities on Water St. apparently resulted in the shooting of a 25-year-old man at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, Milwaukee police said Friday.
"The victim and the suspect were having a physical fight when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim," said Anne Schwartz, Milwaukee Police Department spokesperson.

The shooter then ran into the crowd and is being sought by police, Schwartz said.

The victim was hospitalized, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, she said.

A 25-year-old man was shot outside a bar on N. Water St. late Thursday, forcing police to empty taverns of hundreds of St. Patrick's Day revelers and shut down bars in the surrounding neighborhood.

The shooting was reported shortly before 11:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of N. Water St., Milwaukee Police Department spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the body and was taken to a hospital, but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, Schwartz said.

There were numerous officers in the area who responded immediately to secure the shooting scene and police shut down Water St. from E. State to E. Knapp streets and from N. Market to N. Edison streets, she said.
Until the shooting, revelers on Water St. were orderly and there were no other serious incidents reported, Schwartz said.

Police asked anyone with information or photos of the shooting scene before or after the incident to call the Milwaukee Police Department.
